Rotational Duty
Responsibilities
- Pre-operative Preparation:
- Sterilizing, organizing, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment.
- Ensuring the operating room is clean, safe, and fully stocked with supplies.
- Assisting in patient preparation, including transferring them to the operating table and monitoring their condition.
- Assisting surgeons by passing instruments and equipment during procedures.
- Operating and monitoring specialized equipment (e.g., C-arm, lights).
- Supporting the anesthesiologist with drug, fluid, and blood transfusion management.
- Maintaining strict sterile protocols (aseptic techniques) to prevent infection.
- Cleaning, disinfecting, and preparing the operating room for the next procedure.
- Safely disposing of biomedical and hazardous waste.
- Assisting in the transfer of patients to the recovery room.
- Maintenance & Technical Support:
- Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and reporting faults on equipment.
- Ensuring all instruments are accounted for and properly sterilized.
Requirements & Skills
- Eligibility Criteria for OT Technician Courses
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must pass 10+2 (Higher Secondary) with science subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB). Some institutions may accept PCM.
- Minimum Marks: A minimum aggregate score of 45% to 50% in 10+2 is usually required.
- Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 17 years old at the time of admission. The maximum age is generally around 35 years, though some institutes have no upper limit.
- Physical Fitness: Candidates should be physically fit and free from contagious diseases, as the role requires working in hospital environments.
- Types of OT Technician Programs
- Diploma in OT Technician (DOTT): A 2-year full-time program focusing on practical skills, sterilization, and assisting in surgery.
- BSc in Operation Theatre Technology: A 3-year undergraduate degree providing in-depth knowledge of operating room equipment, anesthesia, and patient care
